We are pleased to announce the eligibility guidelines for the 2017 New Orleans Regional Golf Tournament:
Participant Selection – Up to 96 participants (max of 8 nominated applicants from an individual chapter) from The First Tee regional chapters will be invited to attend the tournament based on the process laid out in the following pages.
• Eligibility – For participants from The First Tee regional chapters to be eligible, they must meet ALL of the following requirements:
1. Ages 12 – 18. Applicants must reach their 12th birthday on or before the first day of the tournament and not reached their 19th birthday by the conclusion of the tournament
2. Entered in The First Tee participant database by December 31, 2016
3. Entered in The First Tee participant database at a minimum of Birdie level by November 1st, 2017
4. Each chapter may submit up to eight participants. We encourage the makeup of the applications to reflect the diversity (age, ethnicity, gender, etc.) of the chapter. Chapter staff should rank the order of the applicants by merit.
5. Active in The First Tee Participant Database upon submittal of application
•Chapter Selection Process – Participants must complete the application and submit directly to their home chapter no later than Friday, October 27th. Chapters will then submit ranked applications via email to The First Tee of Greater New Orleans by Wednesday, November 1st. Participants will be offered invitations to the Tournament by Friday, November 3rd.
•Event Format – The tournament will be a 36 hole stroke play event with an individual and team competition. The individual competition will be broken up into four flights; Boys 12 – 14, Girls 12 – 14, Boys 15 – 18, Girls 15 – 18. The lowest 36 hole score in each flight will be awarded.
The Chapter competition will take the best 3 scores from each round of participants from a particular chapter and combine them together for a 36 hole aggregate score. The Chapter with the lowest combined score at the end of the two rounds will be awarded. (Chapters must have a minimum of three participants playing in the event to qualify for the Chapter competition. Chapters may have up to 8 participants selected, but only the top 3 scores from each round will be counted towards Chapter totals.)
The first round of golf will take place on Sunday (12/17) at Bayou Oaks at City Park. The South Course opened in April 2017 and was designed by Rees Jones. The golf course measures 5,054 – 7,302 yards and features multiple tee locations in order to accommodate players of all skill levels. The second round of golf will be played at Stonebridge Golf Club on Monday (12/18). Located on the West Bank, Stonebridge’s unique layout features 18 holes that wind through several canals and bayous with picturesque views of the city.
•Cost – Participants will be required to pay an $80 registration fee to enter the tournament. If participants qualify for Federal Free & Reduced Lunch through their schools, scholarships are available from The First Tee of Greater New Orleans to waive the entry fee. Families must present proof of FF&RL verification to receive scholarship waiver. Registration can be paid via check, mailed to The First Tee of Greater New Orleans, 1050 S. Registration fees should be paid after Friday, November 3rd and before Friday, December 1st. Registration fees will cover the cost of golf, player welcome gifts, breakfast & lunch during two rounds of golf, and New Orleans Bowl football game ticket.
