The First Tee of Greater New Orleans’ Board of Directors voted unanimously at its March 22nd meeting to appoint Andrew J. Cohoon, as its next President. Andrew began working for The Associated Press as a freelance photographer in 1976 in addition to full-time careers in both construction and architecture. He has covered major sporting and historical events, such as the Super Bowl, Final Four, collegiate bowl games, US Presidential visits, and the Pope’s 1987 New Orleans tour. He and wife Susan started their own photography business, New Orleans Snapshots, in 2007. Cohoon is an avid golfer who volunteered with The First Tee for several years before joining its Board in 2015.
“I was raised to be honest, respectful, work hard, have integrity and always persevere, traits which happen to be some of The First Tee’s Nine Core Values. The First Tee is a perfect fit for me and it has become my passion. I am humbled and honored to have been elected to lead the Board of Directors.” Andrew Cohoon
Cohoon will succeed Sunbelt Conference Senior Associate Commissioner/Corporate Sponsorship & Marketing, John Barranco, who is completing his two-year term (2016-2018) as Board President.
In addition to Cohoon’s election, The First Tee elected Beth Bares to serve as Board Vice President. Bares, Owner and Operator of Your Golf Event Management, has been in the golf industry for more than 20 years and joined The First Tee’s Board in 2016. She is dedicated and in her role as Chair of our major fundraising events, and crucial to the success of our Ladies Junior-AM, Walmart Golf Classic, and The First Tee Regional Tournament.
At the same meeting, Brian Faucheux was elected Secretary of the Board of Directors. Faucheux has been a practicing architect in the New Orleans area for over 30 years. After joining Sizeler Thompson Brown Architects in 1998, he became a Principal in 2006.
“I’ve been involved with The First Tee for almost three years now. The success and growth of our chapter’s programs in improving the lives our community’s young people is undeniable and impressive. I am fortunate to get to work with our dedicated Board and First Tee staff and honored to be elected chapter Secretary. I look forward to continuing the exceptional work of our past Executive Committee and expanding The First Tee’s presence in our City and region.” Brian Faucheux
We extend a warm welcome to Jeffrey Stephens, who was elected to join The First Tee’s Board of Directors. Stephens has 20+ years of experience at all levels in Marine Transportation and Offshore Construction. He just completed three years serving as Director of Facilities and Marine Operations for Pinnacle Entertainment, who operates Boomtown Casino and Hotel in Gretna. Stephens has a 14-year old daughter, Vicki, in The First Tee program.
It is with deep gratitude that we thank exiting Board Chairman John Barranco for his 2 years of leadership and service. John joined The First Tee as an Advisory Member in 2014, assisting with Marketing and Development expertise, before joining the Board of Directors in 2015. John served as Board President from 2016-18 and is Chair of the Nominating & Governance Committee.
“I’ve been fortunate to have worked closely with such quality board and committee members and appreciate all they’ve done for The First Tee during my term. Our accomplishments over the past two years have been impressive, and it was truly a team effort,” said Barranco. “I’d like to congratulate Andrew on his nomination as Board Chairman. I know our organization is in excellent hands.”
